Days 1 and 2 - Arrival in Germany!
Day 1 - Arrival
We made it! After a long day of travel (23 hours!), we made it to Stuttgart, where we were warmly greeted by our host families. They had a delicious spread of food with some Swabian specialties and lots of traditional German snacks (Maultaschen, Brezeln, Schnecken...).
Everyone went home with their families for the evening. There was a wide variety of things that each family did the first evening - a driving tour around Stuttgart, family board games, a concert - die fantastischen Vier!
Day 2 - Tübingen
We met in Untertürkheim (near the school) and took a train to Tübingen. (Some of the students joined us along the way, since the train passed closer to their homes.) In Tübingen, we went first to the main event, which was Stockerkahnfahren - punting - on the Neckar river. We had a very full boat, and our driver, Nick, had to work hard while we all relaxed and had fun!
Then we split up and had some time to look around Tübingen and get some food. Some people had traditional German foods, like Schnitzel and Currywurst, and others had pizza. Almost everyone got some ice cream, as well. A couple of people tried Spaghettieis - a German ice cream specialty, with vanilla ice cream pressed through a pasta press so it looks like spaghetti and covered with strawberry sauce to look like tomato sauce.
