Days 5 - Brezel backen!
Day 5 - Tuesday, July 5
We went to school with our partners for the day. Some classes were a lot of fun and the teacher involved us in the activities. Other classes were more serious and we just observed. We met during the break and the headmaster of the school, Herr Sauter, came to welcome us to the school and to Stuttgart.
At 14:00, we met in the school courtyard and Lars (Mr. Köhler) went with us to the Bäcker Frank, where we got to learn how to bake pretzels. We learned all about the traditional Swabian Laugenbrezeln, starting with the 5 ingredients, how to know when the dough is ready, how to roll and form the pretzels, how to prepare them for the lye bath and bake them, and finally - how delicious they taste. And they were soooo delicious! When we were waiting outside while the pretzels baked, we met a man with a trained, pet turtle - also pretty cool!
