Days 9 and 10 - Family time on the weekend!
The weekend was open for time with our host families, who took us on lots of amazing adventures! Here is a bit about what each person did:
Saturday
Orlaith and Sam went to Killesberg and saw the light show there. The light show, or Lichterfest, is an annual light festival that attracts many Germans far and wide, like moths. The festival, while annual, was actually closed these last two years, due to some international pandemic. The light show included lasers, fireworks, and a spectacular drone show.
Dylan went bouldering in Waiblingen. The gym had high quality walls and even a ninja warrior course! They then went and had dinner with their host family and friends at a house that overlooked the city.
Rowan went on a 3 mile walk/hike in the Black Forest. They also had a picnic and get together with some family friends of her host family. They grilled some sausages and had some different salads for the lunch. For dessert they had some s'mores. They ended up eating and chatting for almost 5 hours.
Sky went to Ulm and got to see the Ulmer Münster which is the tallest church in the world. Then Sky went to a fest by the river. During the night she went to the Flugplatz and had dinner there with her host family and got to see the plane her host Father flies.
Alex went for a bike ride to Esslingen. There they got ice cream and falafels. After they went to Esslingen they went to Aldi to get stuff to make spring rolls later in the week.
Sunday
Almost everyone went to Switzerland to experience the Rhine Falls and the Lake Constance. The Rhine Falls are short yet powerful waterfalls that are the source to many a Central European legend. The falls and Lake Constance, or the Bodensee, border Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. We took a ferry across the lake, and got some ice cream on the other side, and walked around the little town that we took the ferry to. We then returned to Obertürkheim to get some food at an Italian restaurant.
